Pleasance animation.

A friend of a friend from my foundation course contacted me a few months ago and asked if id be interested in creating some animation for the Edinburgh festival i said yes and had been thing about some ideas over the last month or so, and then any posted the same brief from theo up on the learning space so i go thinking.

Ive added some extra bits to the logo for the Pleasance theatre using flash to make his tail waggle and tounge pant and ive sent all the frames off to be printed on acetate and im going to see what i can do with my cyclotrope!

Boneshaker Magazine: The cyclotrope

A while back i was contacted by boneshaker magazine about my cyclotrope, the asked me a few questions about it and asked if they could write an article about it.

The magazine is all about bikes, issue 5 has just been released and the article it there it has information about me, my project and my future projects. I wont post the article here as that wouldn't be fair on the producers of this fantastic magazine but it can be bought here, and all the magazines go online a few months after publishing

Filming with the multiplane

we have set up this multiplane rig in matts room, using glass from photo frames and dvds to space it out.

These are the pieces of acetate that i have carefully splattered with white and black paint to create the crackling noise effect.

This is the final effect we get in camera, looking through all 4 layers.

First animation test!

Today me, matt and heidi met to test the first part of our film, we wanted to create a crackling film effect, i made up 2 layers or painted acetate and we moved and replaced them to create a noise effect.

here are the results, we are quite happy with it, but we are going to work on removing the reflection!

The Animatic

this is our revised animatic.

today we start animating, and will hopefully get an idea of how easy it is going to be and what we need in the way of equipment even if we dont get any of the final animation made.

First rough cut of sound

Me and Matt worked on the soundtrack for the animatic, its just a rough cut together we will have a nicer edit for the finished sequence but its just to get an idea of the style we want.

it will open with static record noise and then cut into Freddie Keppards stock yard blues. at the end of the sequence we are going to fade to our first shot of live action, so our music fades out and the sound 1920s Zurich (symbolised here by the sound of rain) fades in.

Title design, Say Yes say no

i spent today storyboarding some ideas (which i will scan and upload this week) and playing with fonts on photoshop to create a dada style title that we could possibly use in our sequence
